Lansec Secondary Glazing Case Studies

Country hotel / restaurant / pub

Bewdley

This popular hotel has won many awards for its cuisine, guest rooms and quality of service and is recommended in several tourist guides.

Project: Its beautifully decorated themed en-suite rooms have attracted many positive comments from guests, but one bedroom overlooks the busy Bewdley to Tenbury Wells road. The restaurant is also on the front of the building and suffered from the same noise issues. Noise reduction was needed to enhance the comfort of the residents and diners.

Solution: Lansec installed a three panel horizontal sliding unit in the bedroom and lift-out units in the restaurant windows which significantly reduced the noise level and enhanced the relaxed atmosphere in this delightful country inn.

Georgian Farmhouse

Hartlebury

This grade 2 listed building in rural Worcestershire is a working farm having been in the same family for generations.

Project: The owners decided to upgrade the way they heat this large property by installing modern, environmentally friendly heat pumps. By addressing the inherent heat losses associated with the windows in such properties they decided to have secondary glazing installed which meant a lower output heating system could be specified.

Solution: In addition to the savings on the installation cost of the new heating system, the new Lansec secondary glazing eliminated drafts making the house more comfortable and virtually eliminated noise from a nearby trading estate. A variety of styles were used including vertical and horizontal sliders as well as lift out panels, all of which matched the original windows perfectly.

Penthouse apartment

Centenary Plaza

This modern city centre luxury apartment overlooks such popular venues as The Mailbox and Gas Street basin.

Project: The noise of revellers echoing around the surrounding high rise buildings well into the night caused a problem. The existing windows are floor to ceiling so had a large glazed area. Although they were double glazed they were not fitted with modern sealed units which were not as thermally efficient as the current units and offered little sound proofing.

Solution: Lansec’s secondary glazing solution included full height doors for access to the two balconies, tilt-in balanced vertical sliders and lift out units. All units were powder coated with a specific RAL colour to match the existing windows and doors.

The Red House

Great Barr

This property is a large, former gentleman’s residence in several acres of parkland which had until a few years ago been used as municipal offices.

Project: Our client, who had recently acquired the building, is a development company specialising in renovating heritage buildings and converting them into luxury apartments.

Due to its status as a listed building the original windows had to be maintained so secondary glazing was needed throughout in order to achieve the high energy ratings required.

Solution: Lansec installed secondary glazing units to all windows, many of which were large tilt-in vertical sliding units 2.5 metres high by 1.5 metres wide fitted within decoratively panelled bevelled reveals.

Converted church

Wolverhampton

This large former church was acquired by an IT company to use as its headquarters. It was completely refitted to a very high standard with mezzanine floors giving three storeys or workspace for its one hundred plus employees.

Project: Although the renovations had made the building an excellent working environment, the large original windows, some of which were over four metres tall and had to be retained in their original form due to the listed status but represented a massive heat loss resulting in large heating costs.

Solution: Lansec installed “stacked” lift-out secondary glazed units with the top section shaped to a gothic arch to fit the existing windows several of which had bevelled stone reveals. All units were powder coated in the colour that matched the internal décor and were finished in such a way to made them barely noticeable thus maintaining the integrity of the building.

Town centre cottage

Bewdley

This charming cottage is in the conservation area close to the centre of the small Worcestershire town of Bewdley.

Project: When the ageing windows needed to be replaced due to their poor condition, only single glazed timber windows could be used because of the property’s grade 2 listing. However, due to the cottage’s proximity to a busy thoroughfare, there remained the issue of traffic noise.

Solution: By fitting Lansec secondary glazing this problem was eliminated making the rooms surprisingly quiet, especially considering the property’s location.
